The Institute for Structural Biology in Grenoble (France) is seeking a young scientific investigator in mass spectroscopy

The context: the Institute for Structural Biology (IBS, a three-way partnership between the CNRS, the CEA and the University Joseph Fourier) in Grenoble is close to the EMBL outstation, the ESRF synchrotron and the ILL neutron reactor. Located in the French Alps, Grenoble has world-class research centers in the field of structural biology that are unified in the Partnership for Structural Biology (http://www.psb-grenoble.eu/). Grenoble also hosts a strong community of scientists expert in state-of-the-art mass spectroscopy aimed at proteomics studies (EDyP laboratory). At the IBS, 15 research groups (230 people including 60 permanent researchers) are working on structure-function relationships of proteins and their complexes involved in: (1) immunity and host-pathogen
interactions; (2) fundamental intracellular processes, and (3) extremophiles, with a particular emphasis on human health and biotechnology related problems. Researchers at the IBS also develop and maintain an ensemble of technical platforms and state-of-the-art methodologies, providing a fruitful environment for developing new research activities.

The position: The IBS is seeking a young investigator to build up a mass spectrometry research team focused on a biological topic related to those of the institute listed above.

The candidate will have an interest and previous experience in the study of protein complexes and/or the analysis of post-translational modification of proteins using mass spectrometry. Supervision of the existing MS service platform will be expected. The candidate is expected to apply to the ATIP-AVENIR program of the CNRS prior to joining the IBS. This 3 + 2 year grant program enables researchers under 40 of any nationality to set-up and lead a team that strengthens the research of the host institute by developing independent scientific projects. (For more information see: http://www.cnrs.fr/infoslabos/atip/lifeatip.htm)

To express your interest, please send by email a complete CV, an outline of scientific interests (1/2 page) and the names of at least two referees to: ms-applications@ibs.fr. Please refer to “IBS-MS application” in the subject heading of the mail. Deadline: January 22, 2010.
